Book lover

I have just finished reading Book Lover by Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack. ( What can I say I have more than one book on the go all the time) I quite liked the book, but it really didn't hook me until close to the end when in first person the narrator (Dora) says " ... I go into the guest bedroom and pull a paperback out of my bag, the new David Mitchell book, Cloud Atlas. Its about the transmigration of souls across four continents and three time zones, but I quickly decide that it is unreadable." (p 178) YAY! I couldn't get past the bit, in Cloud atlas, where one section ends in the middle of a sentence and doesn't get picked up again for 50 or so pages. (I flicked through to see how long before the sentence is finished) It maybe a literary technique, but frankly it sucked!!! I thought the author was a bit pretentious and have been turned off any other books he's written.

The main reason I decided to read Book lover, was because I love to read, and I like reading about others who like to read. I wish I could shut myself away for three days and go on a book bender!

Books and things

I am just in the middle of reading The raw shark texts by Steven Hall. I've really been enjoying it, but I feel like I'm missing something. The last few pages don't give anything away (yes I skipped to the end)... but I keep expecting that when I get to the end it will all have been a great big hallucination, and there have been clues all the way through that I've just missed. Why should a book be any different to life?? My favourite character is Ian... I know he's a cat and doesn't even get much of the action. But I seem to have this thing for animals in books at the moment. Dog was my favourite character in Two Caravans by Marina Lewycka... that's another story though.

Will let you know how it goes with The raw shark texts.
Until next time!
